Northern Arena to pay out $200,000

The Canadian League of Gamers has launched the Northern Arena 2016 Canadian eSports Championship, which will pay out over $200,000 over two events.
Following the success of last year's Northern Arena tournament, which saw CLG take home the bulk of a $20,000 prize pool, the Canadian League of Gamers has announced that it will host two events in 2016, each one with upwards of $100,000 on offer.
The first event will take place from September 1-4 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre as part of the Fan Expo convention. Later this year, a second event, called "Grand Final", will be held in Montreal, from November 11-13.

The events will be broadcast on Twitch by a professional TV crew and feature 16 teams in total. In both cases, 14 of those spots will be filled through invites, while the last two places will be determined by the Call of the North online qualifiers, which will give up and-coming players from Canada-based teams and top female squads the chance to fight for spots at Northern Arena.
"Canada has some of the most passionate gamers in the world and all are eager to come and watch the very best in the world do what they do best" said Canadian League of Gamers co-founder Carl-Edwin Michel.
"Connecting Northern Arena with the audiences at Fan Expo and working with Vantrix is a perfect fit for us.
"I can't wait to ‘hit the play button’ with Canadian and international eSports elite and kick off Northern Arena's 2016 competitions."
Below you can find the dates for the two Call of the North online qualifiers:
- Qualifier #1: July 23-24
- Qualifier #2: October 21-23
